Talaia de na Guinavera

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Talaia de na Guinavera (also known as Talaia de na Pòpia ) was a watchtower on the Balearic island of Sa Dragonera . It was built in 1580 on the west coast of Dragonera on the highest elevation, the 353 meter high Sa Pòpia de sa Dragonera and, together with the Torre de Cala en Basset from 1581 and the Torre de Sant Elm built in 1531, belonged to the defensive line of the west coast of Mallorca and served to protect against attacks on the port of Port d'Andratx . In 1585 the Torre de Llebeig was built to cover it at the rear . In 1850 the defense tower was demolished and the first lighthouse Far de Na Pòpia on Sa Dragonera was built in the same place .
