Žlutice dam
The Žlutice dam (Czech Vodní nádrž Žlutice ) is a drinking water reservoir in the Czech Republic .
geography
It is located three kilometers west of the town of Žlutice in the Tepler highlands . Dammed waters are the Střela and the Ratibořský potok. The drainage water is the Střela. The reservoir with a water surface of 161.5 ha stretches from the dam below Verušice over 4.6 kilometers to the west to the mountains Čerťák (651 m) and Čertův vrch (610 m) and to the north into the mouth of the Ratibořský potok.
The surrounding villages are Skoky , Polom, Ratiboř, Verušice , Žlutice, Mostec, Přestání and Sovolusky.
history
The dam was built between 1965 and 1968. The 27 m high and 235 m long stone embankment dam was built at a narrow point in the Střela valley at the foot of the Na Skále hill between the former Toffelmühle and the village of Dolánky. With the construction of the dam, the villages Dolánky and Mlyňany located in the reservoir and the water catchment areas Skoky and Martice were dissolved. The crest of the dam is 3.1 m wide.
The Žlutice dam has a permanent capacity of 1 million m³ of water and is used to supply drinking water to north-west Bohemia, especially the regions of Podbořany , Toužim and Žatec . Their maximum capacity is 14.54 million m³ of water. It cannot be used for recreational purposes. Entering the bank areas, which are completely surrounded by forests, is not permitted.
