The Keddara dam ( French Barrage de Keddara ) is located in Algeria in the municipality of Kherrouba , Boumerdes province . It dams the Oued Boudouaou to a reservoir. Algiers is about 35 km west of the dam.
The dam was built from 1982 to 1987. It is used to supply drinking water.
Barrier structure
The barrier structure is a rock embankment dam with a clay core with a height of 106 (or 108) m and a crown length of 468 (or 470) m. The width of the dam is 380 m at the base and 12 m at the top. The volume of the structure is 4.081 million m³. The dam wall has both a bottom outlet and a flood relief .
Reservoir
When the reservoir is completely blocked, it extends over an area of around 5.2 km² and holds 145.6 million m³ of water.
Others
The Keddara dam survived the Boumerdès earthquake on May 21, 2003 without damage.
