from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Tamil Youth Organization (abbreviation: TYO , Tamil: தமிழ் இளையோர் அமைப்பு) is a global Tamil youth organization. In many countries, the organization was founded in 2004 when the tsunami wreaked havoc in Sri Lanka . According to TYO, it was founded with the aim of giving Tamil youth a better future and cohesion and also deals with the socio-cultural problems of the Tamil diaspora. Furthermore, the organization pursues a pro-Tamil course, where the independence of the Tamil Eelam is supported.

The organization operates in the UK, Canada, Australia, Germany, Switzerland, Norway, France, New Zealand and a few other countries. She organizes events in these countries (football tournaments, dance competitions (Akkinithandavam), Tamil cultural events, information evenings and ...) and has often organized demonstrations during the civil war to make the international community aware of the situation in Sri Lanka and to address the oppression of the End Tamils. Large demonstrations were held in Geneva by TYO and in London with the help of other organizations, with over 15,000 Tamils in Geneva and 100,000 in London taking part.

TYO UK also made a major contribution to a Tamil independence referendum held in the UK in January 2010. Around 65,000 Tamils took part in this referendum.
