Tampon plating

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

In the tampon plating is a special method of electroplating .

Partially gold-plated gear cover (tampon electroplating) with 24ct fine gold.

The component to be coated is attached to the negative pole of the electroplating system. The anode is a rod or a plate made of insoluble material, which is wrapped in a cotton tampon. The electrolyte solution is fed to this tool via a hose line .
The method has the advantage that, due to the simple and small components, it can be used in a spatially flexible manner to repair workpieces on site. In addition, a targeted partial coating of large workpieces without masking and correspondingly large baths is also possible.

One disadvantage is the high workload, and the layer thicknesses that can be achieved are also lower.
