The Tanjō-ji ( Japanese. 誕生 寺 , dt. " Birth temple ") is a Buddhist temple of the Nichiren-shū in the district of Kominato of Kamogawa on the coast of the Chiba prefecture .

The various schools of Nichiren Buddhism trace their founding back to the monk and scholar Nichiren (1222–1282). The temple itself was founded in 1276 by a student of Nichiren's, Nichike, on the site where Nichiren's parents' house stood.

The temple buildings themselves were destroyed by tsunamis in 1498 and 1703 , but each time they were rebuilt. It was originally located in what is now called Tai-no-Ura ( 鯛 の 浦 , outdated: Tae-no-Ura, German: " Sea Bream Bay "). During the second construction by Nichiko in the Hoei period (1704–1710), the buildings therefore had to be relocated to their current location within sight of the bay.
