The Tanuma ( Japanese 田 沼 氏 , Tanuma-shi ) were a family of the Japanese sword nobility ( Buke ) , which was derived from the Fujiwara .

genealogy

  • Okiyuki / Motoyuki ( 意 行 ; 1686-1735), a samurai (later Hatamoto ) from the province of Kii , accompanied his prince, Tokugawa Yoshimune , to Edo when he was appointed shogun in 1716.
  • Okitsugu (意 次 ; 1719–1788), Motoyuki's son, served the shoguns Tokugawa Ieshige and Ieharu . In 1772 he became Chancellor ( Rōjū ) and received the fiefdom of Sagara (相 良 ) in the Tōtōmi province , which heimproved to57,000 Koku income and expanded the castle there on a grand scale within 11 years. His poor administration and ambitious views led to his impeachment in 1787, and the castle was completely demolished.
  • Okitomo ( 意 知 ; 1749–1784), Okitsugu's eldest son, was Wakadoshiyori in the shogunate administration . His arrogant behavior led to an argument with Sano Masakoto, who killed him in the shogun's palace.
  • Okiaki ( 意 明 ; 1773–1796), Okitomo's son, received Sagara for a short time after Okitsugu's deposition and then instead Shimomura in Mutsu Province .
  • Okimasa ( 意 正 ; 1754–1836), Okitsugu's fourth son, inherited after the early deaths of the brothers Okiaki, Okikazu ( 意 壱 ; 1780–1800) and Okinobu ( 意 信 ; 1782–1803), as well as Okinobu's adopted son Okisada ( 意 定 ; 1784-1804), Shimomura. In 1823 he was able to return to Sagara with 10,000 koku as a daimyo. He built a permanent house ( jin'ya ) in the former castle area . The family resided there until the Meiji Restoration in 1868. After that, the head of the house held the title Vice Count.
