Tanzi-Bäri-Polka

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Tanzi-Bäri-Polka is a polka by Johann Strauss Sohn (op. 134). The work was first performed on July 15, 1853 in Vienna's Volksgarten .

Remarks

The name of this polka goes back to an animal show, which was not uncommon in Central European cities in the past, in which so-called bear leaders had trained bears perform tricks. Today there are similar (now controversial) animal shows at the circus. The composer imitates such an idea in his work. The polka was dedicated to the scandal-ridden Countess Juliana Batthyani, a born Countess of Apraxin. She also had a preference for music, ballet and theater. The polka was later somewhat forgotten and was rarely performed, if at all. This was also due to the fact that the composer's many compositions sometimes displaced each other from the concert schedule. There was simply an oversupply of such works.

The playing time on the CD listed under individual records is 3 minutes and 41 seconds. This time can vary somewhat depending on the conductor's musical conception.
