Targitaos ( Greek  Ταργιτάος ) was an ancestor of the Scythians in Greek mythology .

According to Herodotus , who reported doubts, he was the son of Zeus and a daughter of the river god Borysthenes . He fathered the three sons Lipoxais, Arpoxais and, as the youngest son, Kolaxes . Together the sons ruled the land until various objects made of gold fell from the sky. When the two older sons tried to pick up the items, they went up in flames. Only Kolaxes was able to collect them, after which rule over the Scythians was transferred to him by his siblings.
