Tauno Johannes Kukkamäki
Tauno Johannes Kukkamäki (born October 11, 1909 , † May 1, 1997 ) was a Finnish geodesist . He is best known for his research on the adjustment of leveling devices . In 1940 he defended his doctoral thesis on length measurement using the Väisälä interference comparator at the University of Turku . He served as director of the Finnish Geodetic Institute from 1963 to 1977. He was also President of the International Association of Geodesy (IAG). The asteroid (2159) Kukkamäki was named in his honor.
