A thousand tons of fruit

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Thousand tons of fruit was a punk band from the GDR . It was founded in East Berlin in 1988 and belonged to the so-called other bands , i.e. the alternative music scene of the GDR that was initially exposed to state repression and later increasingly tolerated.

The first line-up of the band consisted of Ulf Baum, Kurt Schimmelpfennig, Falk Deiß and Reiner Morgenroth. Other members with changing line-ups were Frank Tetz (previously singer with Hard Pop ), Stefan Schwalbe, Frank Poddig, Uwe Mikelowsky, Andreas Klix, Mike Lebinsky and Kay Lutter. The band broke up in 1995.

During the GDR era, live performances and demo recordings were possible, but no state-approved radio or Amiga productions. Their only official publications appear after the fall of the wall with the AMIGA successor label Zong.
