The teatr dach eV is a cabaret in the Meerdorf district of the Wendeburg community . Cabaret events by artists from Germany and Europe take place here regularly . An in-house ensemble regularly produces in-house productions.

Naming

The peculiar spelling of the “teatr dach” can be traced back to the year it was founded, when it came to the name. The lower case should arouse curiosity and be a reference to the unconventional (as in Dadaism), the term "teatr" is deliberately formulated in a foreign language (from Polish) and should symbolize openness to the world.

background

The idea of setting up a cabaret came about in 1990 when the theater pedagogue and director Albrecht Schultze converted the attic of his half-timbered house, which at that time was still used as a rehearsal room, into a theater stage with a school theater group. In order to implement official fire protection requirements, an association was soon founded to “promote culture in rural areas”. Today the stage has the status of “insider tip” and “cultural lighthouse of the region” in the press.

The theater in the building

The teatr roof is located in the former hayloft of an over 100-year-old half-timbered house. Access is via a museum-like threshing floor with stairs up under the roof. The furnishing of the event room itself still consists partly of old materials (pew, old chairs and doors). The room theater itself houses a 12 m² stage, a small bar and has 60 seats. A large garden is attached to the house, where open-air events also take place in summer. "Internationes" serve here as an example, in which one country was the cultural focus, with z. B. Indian food, Indian theater and Indian sitar music.

Event concept

Behind the cabaret is the board of a non-profit association with currently 220 members. In addition to its own ensemble, which has been staging its own productions for 15 years - regularly funded by the Braunschweiger Kulturbesitz foundation and NordLB / public - the teatr dach offers cabaret, music, dance theater, children's theater and readings. In addition to well-known cabaret artists, such as u. a. Dieter Hildebrandt , artists from the surrounding area are also offered a platform whose further careers could start here.

In 2016 the theater director Albrecht Schultze received the Federal Cross of Merit , both for his educational and social commitment as well as for his active cultural work in the region.
