The district of Kőszeg ( Hungarian Kőszegi járás ) is a district in the northwest of the western Hungarian Vas County . It borders on the Sárvár County in the east, the Szombathely County in the south and the Sopron County in the north ( Győr-Moson-Sopron County ). In the northwest and west, five municipalities form the state border with the Austrian Burgenland .

history

As part of the Hungarian administrative reform, the district emerged in early 2013 as the successor to the small area of the same name (Hungarian Kőszegi kistérség ) with all 15 municipalities, reinforced by 6 of the 16 municipalities of the small area Csepreg (Hungarian Csepregi kistérség ), which was dissolved at the end of 2012 . The area growth for Kőszeg was 101.38 square kilometers (54.8%) or 7,594 inhabitants (42.1%).
