The district of Körmend ( Hungarian Körmendi járás ) is a district in the southwest of the western Hungarian Vas county . In the north it borders on the Szombathely County , in the east on the Vasvár County , and in the west the Körmend County separates the Szentgotthárd County from the main part of the county. In the southwest and south, the Zala county forms the border with the Zalaegerszeg and Lenti districts . In the northwest the district borders with four municipalities on the Austrian Burgenland and in the southwest five municipalities form the border with the neighboring country Slovenia .

history

In the course of the Hungarian administrative reform, the district was created at the beginning of 2013 as the successor of the small area of the same name (Hungarian Körmendi kistérség ) (25 municipalities) and from 21 (of the 22) municipalities of the southern small area Őriszentpéter (Hungarian Őriszentpéteri kistérség ), which was dissolved at the end of 2012 . This small area was only given by the Kondorfa community to the Szentgotthárd district . The area growth for Körmend at that time was 283.62 square kilometers (85.7%) or 5,724 inhabitants (28.0%).

The third most populous and third largest district has the second lowest population density in the county. The district seat is located in the largest city, Körmend , in the north of the district.
