Tango Theater

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Teatro Tango is a pair of terms from the Spanish language, originating from the combination of the words "teatro" (theater, stage) and "tango" (tango). In Argentina "Teatro Tango" is used to denote the stage tango, to illustrate the difference to a tango dance event.

In Germany, Teatro Tango has been known since the 1980s as the creative body and dance language concept by the Argentine artist Jorge Aquista . This concept is based on a very free and playful use of the form and content of the Tango Argentino dance, supplemented by elements of movement and body theater, dance and contact improvisation.

Jorge Aquista developed his Teatro Tango concept in the early 1980s, starting with a play. The close connection between body theater play (teatro) and the ritual power of tango music (tango) gave the concept its name. In the meantime, Teatro Tango has found its own place in the dance and theater landscape in Germany.

Through Jorge Aquista's interventions in Buenos Aires since the 1990s, Teatro Tango is also used there to designate tango events with uniform educational requirements for dance lessons based on tango music.

Jorge Aquista has been working in the areas of movement and performing arts as a director , actor and theater lecturer since the late 1970s . Born and raised in Buenos Aires, various work stations took him to Barcelona, Rome, Stockholm, Hamburg, Berlin, Freiburg, Heidelberg. He is present nationwide in Germany, among other things, with his concepts “Teatro Tango”, “Literacy of the Body” and advanced training for body-oriented teaching.
