Tech House is mostly characterized by a 4/4 time signature, which contains reduced melodic elements. The speed is a bit faster than traditional house (mostly 123-128 bpm) but slower than most techno styles. The rhythm of dotted sixteenth notes, which is characteristic of house, is implemented in a minimalist manner in Tech House, but in such a way that the funkyness associated with it can still be noticed. The sounds of acoustic instruments or vocals are often imitated synthetically. There are short tone sequences, or also minimal minor chord areas and atonal sounds. The basic beat of the tech house usually consists of a layered kick with a shaker, a clap on every second kick and the hi-hats between kicks. Modern tech house songs are characterized by continuous, subtle bass lines that swell up and down through sidechaining, thereby emphasizing the driving character of the song. The main characteristics are crisp drum sequences, deep and highly compressed kick drums and vocals samples used to build up the tension curve.
