History and description

The building was built as an extension of the Herford City and District Hospital (Herford Clinic since 1995 ) in the vicinity of the old Friedrich Wilhelm Hospital in Radewig . It was opened in 1929 with 144 beds. In 1973 the district hospital moved to a new building outside the city center, since then the building has been used by the Herford city administration as the technical town hall.

The four to six storey building was planned by the Berlin architects Carl Mohr and Paul Weidner , who specialize in hospitals . The outer walls are made of dark brick , the gable and decorative elements show the style of Expressionism .

On May 29, 1985 the building was listed as a historical monument.
