Technopathogenology

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Technopathogenology (TPG) is a concept developed by Guillermo Miguel Eguiazu and Alberto Motta that deals with hidden errors or mistakes in a technology that has a negative impact on human health and the preservation of living conditions. Negative consequences should be recorded as early as possible and in good time and not only after years or in the coming generations. One of many examples is the thalidomide scandal .

Hidden errors or mistakes are theoretically possible in all scientific approaches and their technical implementation, because they are often difficult to discover with today's methods. There is as yet no widely used scientific approach to avoid them. Above all, Eguiazu and Motta urge scientists to take responsibility for their research.

Technopathogenology examines all development steps of a technology - from the first scientific ideas, theories and methods of a research project to their application and implementation in technical products or processes. Technopathogenology differs from technology assessment , which generally only examines products and techniques after they are already on the market, large investments have been made and, as a rule, nothing can be changed.

The TPG

  • examines scientific research and its technical application in products or processes,
  • identifies uncertainties and knowledge gaps as causes of technical errors,
  • highlights the risk of long-term damage,
  • includes ethical considerations.
