The Matscher Tal , also simply called Matsch ( Italian Val di Mazia ), is a side valley of the Vinschgau or upper Adige Valley in South Tyrol , which leads into the southern Ötztal Alps and is glaciated at the end of the valley (Matscher Ferner). The Matscher valley is drained by the Saldurbach .

The village of Matsch is a fraction of Mals . It has always been shaped by the mountain farming culture and is considered to be one of the poorest valleys in the region. This has enabled it to retain its pristine character to this day. Little is known, the relatively little tourism is concentrated in the back of the valley. The valley can be reached from Tartsch on a mountain road, but from Schluderns , where the valley starts in a gorge , only on foot. At the head of the valley is the Oberetteshütte of the Alpine Association of South Tyrol at 2670  m . From the eponymous village of Matsch, you have a good view of the Ortler Alps opposite with their extensive glaciers.
