history

The Athens Gas Works was founded in 1857 and fully commissioned in 1862. In August 1984 the plant was shut down after a new plant in Aspropyrgos had been put into operation. In the 1990s, the site was acquired by the city and converted into an event location, while the old facilities were preserved. Eight buildings today bear the names of Greek poets and show a thematic exhibition on their work, provided that these buildings are not used for temporary exhibitions. The site is used by the Athens Biennale every two years .

The broadcasting house of the communal radio station 9.84 is also located on the premises.
