Tecnomatix is a software solution that connects production areas from process definition and planning through simulation and verification to actual production. Tecnomatix is an application example for the digital factory .

Company history

The Israeli company Tecnomatics Technologies Ltd., founded in 1983 . previously listed on the New York NASDAQ Stock Exchange under the symbol TCNO, was acquired by UGS Corporation on April 1, 2005 at a price of USD 227.5 million . At the time of the takeover, the company employed more than 600 people in more than thirty branches and seven development centers, two of which were in Germany with the branches in Haar near Munich and Stuttgart. In addition, there were four further sales and service branches in Germany at the time of the takeover. In the last independent fiscal year 2004, on October 27, 2004, sales of USD 73.5 million were published for the first nine months of the fiscal year, an increase of around 20% over the same period of the previous year. On January 4, 2005 the two companies agreed in principle on the buyback offer by UGS for the shares in Tecnomatix in circulation at USD 17 per share. Both the general meeting of Tecnomatix shareholders and the Federal Cartel Office in spring 2005 approved this offer.

The company supplied software solutions for planning, monitoring and controlling production processes (Manufacturing Process Management (MPM)) and production management to the automotive, electronics and aviation industries as well as other manufacturing branches.

The company's product range was incorporated into the existing products of UGS Corporation for controlling production processes. The current product line includes the areas of parts production, assembly planning, resource planning, production facility design and optimization, workforce management, quality and production management, and product and production data management. Main product lines of Tecnomatics Technologies Ltd. are AnySim, eM-Human, eM-Workplace (RobCad), eM-Plant ( Plant Simulation ), Process Planner and Process Designer. Tecnomatix is integrated into the Teamcenter product range of UGS Corporation and its modules are used in the automotive, supplier, shipyard and electronics industries.

Function overview

Tecnomatix includes several programs that are suitable for different tasks.

Plant simulation

Plant Simulation offers graphic and integrated model creation, the simulation and visualization of systems and business processes and is completely object-oriented . Hierarchical structures, inheritance, polymorphism, reuse of objects, etc. are possible. Plant Simulation can be expanded modularly with additional products.

Process Designer

The general layout of the scenario is determined in "Process Designer". The respective components of the scenario such as products and resources are assigned to so-called studies. Each type of study offers different functions.

Process simulate

In "Process Simulate", the scenario of a study created in "Process Designer" can be supplemented with additional resources or products. Not all study types can be loaded with "Process Simulate". Here, robot operations and operations of other resources can be defined and their chronological sequence can be determined. Sensors and external signals can be implemented and processed using so-called "logic blocks" and connected to a programmable logic controller ( PLC ). While the simulation is running, the scenario can be influenced by objects such as B. have resources or people relocated locally and signals can be monitored and set using a "Signal Viewer". Fault situations can also be simulated in this way. The program offers an interface to a real PLC and robots.
