Télam is an Argentine news agency .

Télam was founded on April 14, 1945 under the name Telenoticiosa Americana . The agency was set up during the reigns of Edelmiro Julián Farrell and Juan Domingo Perón to contrast the dominance of the two North American news agencies United Press International (UPI) and Associated Press (AP) with a national counter-pole in terms of news control. The first director was Gerónimo Jutronich . The company's first office was at Avenida 25 de Mayo 140. At the beginning, the agency was a partly state-owned joint venture, partly made up of private investors, whereas today, after being temporarily closed on May 30, 1963 and nationalized on May 24, it was founded June 1968, operating as the state-owned Sociedad del Estado . The sole shareholder is the Secretaría de Medios de Comunicación .

Télam has around 300 subscribers to the journalistic service it offers. These include the country's largest press organs, as well as smaller local media that use Télam as their primary news source. Télam employs around 450 people, slightly more than half of whom work in the journalistic field. The national correspondent network consists of 28 people and extends over the entire country of Argentina.
