Telepsychiatry

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Telepsychiatry refers to medical advice in the field of psychiatry and psychosomatics , which takes place via the medium of video telephony / video conferencing , comparable to the procedure used in teleneurology .

The prerequisite is a fluid picture and sound transmission in real time , which z. B. through a VPN -tunnelled Internet connection with encryption technologycan be adequately secured. Telepsychiatrically conducted specialist consultations in hospitals and care facilities, which were previously unable to offer any or only inadequate care by specialists, provide the mentally ill with timely, distance-independent, economically and ecologically favorable medical care through telepsychiatric networking. Telepsychiatry enables closer networking of all medical institutions that need psychiatric advice. Expert advice available almost immediately via a telepsychiatric connection increases the quality of treatment, especially in hospitals, general practitioners' practices and homes in rural regions. In the TEMPiS project supplying the stroke unit A cost-saving improvement in therapy could be demonstrated with comparable technology.
