Tenori-on

Tenori-on ( Japanese手 乗 り 音, / te nori on g /) is an electronic musical instrument developed by media artist Toshio Iwai (岩 井 俊雄) in collaboration with Yū Nishibori (西 堀 ユ ウ) and Yamaha . It was launched in 2007.

The instrument consists of a magnesium frame with a matrix of 16 × 16 LED keys which, like a sequencer , can be used to intuitively program and play short loops and patterns . The buttons also serve to visualize the music being played. On the back there are 16 × 16 LEDs, which during the game show the same mirror-image visual effects as the buttons on the front. Data can be exchanged with other MIDI-capable devices via a MIDI interface. Yamaha has released an app version of the Tenori-on for iOS under the name TNR-i .
