Tenshin Shōden Katori Shintō-ryū (天 真正 伝 香 取 神道 流) is one of the oldest sword schools in Japan . The Honbu Dōjō is located in Katori, Chiba .

history

Iizasa Chōisai Ienao , founder of the Tenshin Shōden Katori Shintō-ryū

Tenshin Shōden Katori Shintō-ryū was founded between 1447 and 1450 by Iizasa Chōisai Ienao (1387-1488) and passed on from generation to generation until 1898. The style has had a very close connection to Katori-jingū since its inception , as Iizasa Chōisai is said to have met the Futsu-nushi worshiped in the shrine in a dream . This is said to have initiated Chōisai into the secrets of the art of war, which are said to be handed down in the Katori Shintō-ryū. Since the 18th Sōke Shuri-no-Suke Morisada died unexpectedly in the 19th century without male descendants, Tenshin Shōden Katori Shintō-ryū was led for the next twenty years by a college of eight experts. Since then there has also been a separation of the titles Sōke and Shihanke . The current sōke of the 20th generation is Iizasa Shūri-no-suke Yasusada and the current Shihanke is 89-year-old (2015) Risuke Ōtake .

Course content

Kenjutsu - Kata from the Tenshin Shōden Katori Shintō-ryū

In Tenshin Shōden Katori Shintō-ryū, students learn Kenjutsu , Iaijutsu , Bojutsu , Naginatajutsu , Sojutsu , Jūjutsu and Shurikenjutsu .

Guidelines

Since the sōke of the Tenshin Shōden Katori Shintō-ryū can no longer teach the tradition for health reasons, this task falls to Shigetoshi Kyoso (youngest son of Risuke Ōtake ) and Yukihiro Sugino as teachers. Both teachers represent different teaching lines that have emerged over the 600 year old history of the tradition and that partly differ externally. However, both have a close relationship with the sōke and have the appropriate teaching permit.

Representative in Germany

Both Shigetoshi Kyoso and Yukihiro Sugino have students and corresponding branch dōjō in Germany. The representative of Yukihiro Sugino in Germany Ulf Rott (5th Dan) from empty . The official representative ( Menkyo / Shidōsha ) of Shigetoshi Kyoso in Germany is Kevin Russ , who gives training in Ismaning .

Other doctrines

In addition to Shigetoshi Kyoso and Yukihiro Sugino, there are other people who teach Katori Shinto-ryu , but no longer have a relationship with the Sōke. Risuke Ōtake is still teaching with his older son Nobutoshi Ōtake in the Shinbukan Dojo in Narita. The Narita Dojo is represented by Stefan Saicic in Germany. The organization Katori Shintō-ryū Hatakeyama-ha was founded by Hatakeyama Goro . Sugawara Sogo Budo Katori Shinto-ryu was founded by Tetsutaka Sugawara , a former student of Risuke Ōtake .
