The TENTE International GmbH , based in Cologne, is the holding company -Gesellschaft the TENTE Group. Wheels and castors are manufactured under the registered trademark TENTE.
The company's history began in 1923 in the Tente district of Wermelskirchen with the sale of ball transfer units and rollers for sliding cabinet doors. The TENTE ROLLEN GmbH Wermelskirchen is the largest subsidiary of TENTE International GmbH. With the production of wheels and castors for hospital beds, shopping trolleys, furniture and transport trolleys, TENTE developed into the second largest employer in the city in the following years.
Foundation and development until 1970
Adolf Schulte founded TENTE-ROLLEN GmbH as a sales company in 1923. The range included cast iron castors, piano castors, furniture and sliding door casters, as well as rails and fittings. Ten years later, production began in the garage. Since 1954, TENTE has presented a range of products under the company logo with a Roman chariot at national and international trade fairs, which grew continuously in the first years of the economic boom. Five years later the company moved into new production and administration buildings in Tente-Herrlinghausen.
In 1963 the device role with steering lock had its premiere. An innovation that is known today as a directional lock. A year later, TENTE began its internationalization with membership in European standardization committees . With the move into the new administration building in 1965, electronic data processing also found its way into TENTE . In 1968 over 10 million rolls were produced for the first time. Development 1971 to 1999
TENTE South Africa is the first branch of TENTE and was founded in 1971 together with the Protea Holding Group in South Africa. 1973 TENTE-ROLLEN GmbH was enlarged and a second high-bay warehouse was put into operation. TENTE USA is located in Hebron, Kentucky and was founded in 1979. They develop and produce castors and wheels especially for the US market.
In 1983, Raymond Schulte resigned as managing partner and Dr. Dietrich Fricke, who had been managing director at TENTE in Wermelskirchen since 1958, took over the shareholder's shares. As early as 1985, the first steps were taken to present the company worldwide as a brand with a new corporate identity . A few years later, TENTE took over the competitor “Hufa-Rolle” and is now more strongly represented in these markets through its Hufa subsidiaries in England, France, Ireland, Belgium and the Netherlands. Some of these companies were already part of the TENTE agencies.
In 1991 a new generation of castors for hospital beds was presented, which was awarded several prizes for its product design .
In 1994 TENTE developed the corporate identity for the 21st century with a modernized logo and a new corporate color. Two years later, the program was further expanded by taking over the role of Schulte under the name "Greif". The Czech subsidiary has been part of the TENTE company since 1997 and is also responsible for Slovakia. Since 1997, new technologies have enabled the development of further products. The "INTEGRAL" hospital bed castor received two design awards in a very short time. In 1998, TENTE founded the subsidiary TENTE Spain in Barcelona, which also serves the Portuguese market. In the same year the company's 75th anniversary was celebrated. In addition, the expansion of the production and administration building was completed and the third, fully computer-controlled high - bay warehouse was built.
Development from 2000 to 2013
In 2000, the takeover of BRUANDET, a leading manufacturer of chair and furniture casters, rounded off the TENTE program in this market segment . There has been a subsidiary in Sweden since 2002, and in the same year the northern branch in Germany, based in Bönen, and the southern branch in Nersingen were founded. In the 2003 financial year , TENTE Polyurethane Parts SAS in Macon, France, was taken over as a polyurethane specialist in order to promote performance in the heavy duty sector.
In 2005 TENTE founded a production plant and sales location in Suzhou, China. In the following two years, further subsidiaries were established in Hungary, Finland, Canada, Norway and Japan. In 2007, TENTE-ROLLEN GmbH founded a subsidiary in Poznań, Poland, which became a subsidiary of TENTE International GmbH in 2013. In 2008, TENTE Schwerlasttechnik GmbH, which specializes in the manufacture of heavy-duty castors and wheels, was founded. In the same year the agency in Denmark, which had been part of the TENTE agencies since 1961, became a subsidiary. In the following two years, TENTE founded additional subsidiaries in Italy, Latvia, Russia, Australia and Switzerland. Two further subsidiaries were founded in 2013 in Belarus and Ukraine.

The Institutional division offers various roles for furniture, chairs, airplane trolleys and shopping trolleys . The TENTE designer castors have been awarded international prizes.
TENTE Medical
TENTE is the world market leader for centrally lockable bed castors. In cooperation with various hospital bed manufacturers, TENTE develops castors for hospital and care beds. These are adapted to the specific requirements in the medical field, such as B. regular cleaning at high temperatures, electrical conductivity or low overall height.
TENTE Industrial
This area offers, among other things, transport equipment castors, heat-resistant castors and noise-reducing castors. These were developed for permanent use in dust, moisture, at high temperatures and on uneven floors.
TENTE Heavy Duty
TENTE produces special heavy duty castors, centrally lockable castors and pallet truck wheels for easy and safe transport of goods weighing tons.
