In 1934 he settled in a beer brewery founded in 1904. In 1948 Ter Beke was founded as a sausage business. In 1959, his son Daniel Coopman took over the company from his father. From 1987 the company made various takeovers. In 2006 the merger with the company Pluma from Wommelgem took place . In 2011 a joint venture between Ter Beke and French business colleague Stefano Toselli was announced.

Ter Beke is a stock corporation , listed on the stock exchange since 1986 .

In 2013, the company had to temporarily shut down two plants due to the proportion of horse meat in lasagna . In October 2019, it became known that three elderly people had died as a result of a listeria infection . The victims ate contaminated meat, which almost certainly came from the Offerman company, a Dutch subsidiary of Ter Beke. Ter Beke therefore expects a financial loss of over 4 million euros.
