Terebratulida (Terebratulida) are a taxon of arm pods (Brachiopoda) with a short lock rim and a smooth dotted (impunctaten) shell. They have a loop-shaped (= ancylopegmates) arm structure. Together with the Protorthida , Orthida , Rhynchonellida , Atrypida , Spiriferida and Pentamerida , they form the taxon Terebratulida, which in turn belongs to the sub-strain of the Rhynchonelliformea .
features
Their short lock edge is usually curved. The stem opening is usually in the vertebra. Well-known genera are Stringocephalus (Middle Devonian), Coenothyris (Triassic) and Cincta (Jura).
Systematics
The terebratulids are divided into four sub-taxa, which are mainly subdivided according to the formation of the arm structure:
- Centronellina arm structure without ascending branch (Devonian to Triassic)
- Terebratulina arm structure with ascending branch without connection to the median septum (Devonian until today)
- Terebratellina arm structure with ascending branch with connection to the median septum (Devonian until today)
- Meganthyridoidea long straight edge of the lock (chalk until today)
