The Terex 33-15 is a large dump truck made by the US manufacturer Terex in the 1970s and 1980s. It is designed to move large quantities of overburden in deep open-cast mines with difficult conditions.

Development history

The first prototype of the Terex 33-15 was manufactured in 1971 at GM's Canadian plant in London, Ontario . It had a payload of 150 tons and was the pioneer for a new range of dump trucks from the manufacturer. Series production of the Terex 33-15 initially ran from 1972 to 1975. From 1975 to 1981, the 33-15B was manufactured with an increased payload of 20 tons. The last version 33-15С was produced from 1981 to 1985 and had the same payload as its predecessor.

technology

The two-axle Terex 33-15 (4 × 2) reaches a top speed of 48 km / h. The 33-15B version is 12.75 m long, 6.27 m wide and 5.67 m high; the wheelbase is 5.49 m. The drive is diesel-electric with a sixteen-cylinder diesel engine from Detroit Diesel . The 16V-149T1 engine has a displacement of 39.18 liters and develops 1600 hp (1194 kW). The electric traction motors are on the axles; the power is transmitted to the wheels via planetary gears . The driver's cab, which is secured against falling objects, is attached to the engine compartment above the left front wheel and can be reached via a ladder-stair combination at the front of the vehicle. The dump body of the Terex 33-15B holds 53.6 m³ (72.2 m³ heaped). It is brought from the horizontal into the tilt position with two hydraulic cylinders. The maximum payload is specified as 150 or 170 tons, depending on the version. The permissible total mass is accordingly 256.32 or 276.32 tons.
