A terminology server is software that is used in medical informatics. It is used to store medical knowledge in a structured manner and to make it available via terminology as an access point. Often attempts are made to present medical text in a semantically usable manner.

The terminology can be, for example, classifications or symptoms that can be used to call up diagnoses or medical texts. Examples of common classifications are ICD-10 , SNOMED , LOINC or MeSH .
