Content and production

The first season of Superbauten presents three important buildings in German history: the landmarks and tourist attractions Cologne Cathedral , Dresden Frauenkirche and Neuschwanstein Castle . The documentation shows the technical achievements and innovations and the challenges behind these structures, their builders, their art-historical value, the technical aids used and their origins. The first season aired in March 2010. All computer animations in the first season were created by Faber Courtial . In 2011 a 60-minute summary of the first three episodes followed under the name Die Superbauten , which was broadcast on April 24, 2011 without the umbrella brand Terra X.

While the series was dedicated to one building from Germany in the first season per episode, the second season is more general and shows an overview of various worldwide monumental buildings from several centuries, such as churches, temples and palaces. The second season was presented by Christian Berkel. The second season was broadcast on ZDF from December 9, 2012 to December 23, 2012.
