A patio heater is used to increase the comfort when staying outdoors, z. B. on a terrace , on cool days and evenings. The thermal effect is based exclusively on thermal radiation , which directly or indirectly hits the people present. A patio stove is usually portable. There are the following types:

In beer gardens and at public events with a gastronomic component, propane gas stoves in the form of gas-powered patio heaters are usually used (also known as radiant heaters ; in everyday language also called patio heaters , which is also registered as a trademark, and in Austria heated mushrooms ). After the rapidly increasing popularity of the special infrared heaters imported from Sweden in the early 2000s, there are now bans on the use of gas-powered patio heaters in public companies such as restaurants due to the high carbon dioxide emissions in many larger cities in Germany and in many German federal states. However, there is no ban on occasional private use.
