The Tessiner Zeitung is the only German-language newspaper published in the Italian-speaking canton of Ticino .
history
The newspaper was founded in 1908 by the Locarno publisher Pietro Giugno. Initially, the paper saw itself as the organ of around 6,000 German-speaking Swiss in Ticino, most of the Gotthard railway employees , and accused the Ticino people of "foreign federal attitude", which led to some resentment. After the First World War , Hermann Aellen , editor of the Tessiner Zeitung from 1913 to 1915, relaunched it in 1921 under the name Südschweiz . Aellen was editor of the newspaper until 1923 and again from 1935 to 1939.
In 1926 it went to the Richterswil book and art print shop, but from 1948 it was printed again in Locarno. In 1967 the Carminati printing company (now Rezzonico Editore) in Locarno took over the newspaper. In 1987 Raimondo Rezzonico, the father of the current publisher Giò Rezzonico, renamed the newspaper back to the original title Tessiner Zeitung .
The paper, which originally appeared twice and then three times over a number of years, became a weekly newspaper in 2006. In 2012 the Tessiner Zeitung launched the TicinoWeekend internet platform together with the most important tourism providers in Ticino .
The newspaper appears in two parts: the first is devoted to current events in Ticino and the Italian border region, the second gives an overview of cultural events and leisure tips. In spring, summer and autumn there is a special edition each with a focus on tourism.
The WEMF - certified circulation is 6,519 (prior year 6'544.) Sold or 6'640 (previous year 6'550.) Spread copies of the annual turnover of nearly two million Swiss francs.
