Hermann Aellen

Hermann Aellen (born May 24, 1887 in Oberbalm ; † September 26, 1939 in Minusio ; pseudonym: Helveticus ) was a Swiss writer and journalist .

Life

He graduated from the technical college in Biel and then studied history and literature in Bern. 1908–11 he was an editor at the "Oberländer Tagblatt" in Thun, 1911–12 at the "Brugger Tagblatt", 1913 at the "Tessiner Zeitung" in Locarno, 1915–19 as Rudolf von Tavel's successor at the "Berner Tagblatt", 1921 founder and until 1923 or 1935–39 editor of "Südschweiz", from 1929 also features editor of "Neue Berner Zeitung". 1912 was one of the founders of the Swiss Writers' Association , editor of the "Swiss Writer's Lexicon" (1918) and the "Swiss Contemporary Lexicon" (1920-23).

Aellen's literary work, which was influenced by Heinrich Federer , deals with "national matters in history ... and the present ... and is characterized by romantic criticism of progress ... and longing for the south".
