Texmaker is a cross-platform Unicode - text editor for creating LaTeX -documents. The software is published under the GNU General Public License .

The editor is aimed in particular at LaTeX beginners, who should be able to facilitate the creation of documents with the help of wizards.

main features

Texmaker can compile and display documents. To make work easier, the program has syntax highlighting and an assistant for easy creation of tables. Special characters can be inserted automatically as a LaTeX command and mandatory elements of a LaTeX document via wizards with a mouse click . Texmaker supports Unicode and includes an integrated display of DVI , PostScript , PDF and HTML files. Using SyncTeX, Texmaker is able to jump to the corresponding point in the source file via the integrated display in the generated document and vice versa, from the source file to the corresponding section in the generated document.

Instead of project management, the program offers a session manager with which the list of currently open files is saved in a session file and can be reloaded via a shortcut when the program is restarted. You can define the main file of a larger project in the program as the master file, which is then always translated independently of the one currently open.

In addition to syntax highlighting, there is a word completion that can handle the common TeX commands. Mandatory brackets are also inserted, and you can quickly switch between the arguments using ( Tab ). The completion can also add references and citations.

Texmaker offers a list view with errors and warnings when creating with LaTeX and the possibility to switch quickly to the appropriate place in the file with a click of the mouse.

Other features:

  • Integration of LaTeX-related programs
  • BibTeX database management
  • Tree view
  • LaTeX to HTML converter
  • Check spelling with Hunspell
