The Bachelors

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Bachelors were an Irish singing group from the 1960s .

Career

Originally founded in Dublin in the mid-1950s under the name The Harmonichords (also The Harmony Chords ), the trio initially only played traditional instrumental music on harmonica . On a concert tour of Scotland they met someone who introduced them to Dick Rowe from Decca Records . After some delays, Rowe signed the three Irish and changed her name to The Bachelors. With new recordings of old hits, the three Irishmen, initially produced by Shel Talmy , had immediate success and were consistently represented in the international charts from 1963 to 1967 . In 1966 they put a cover version of the song The Sounds of Silence by Simon and Garfunkel on the UK charts, helping the two Americans with their commercial breakthrough. The success of the Bachelors declined sharply after 1967, although their greatest hits records reappeared regularly. The Bachelors found their live audience by the late 1970s, but after a decade without hits, their notoriety began to decline as well.
