The Beano

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Beano is a British comic magazine for children. It has been published by DC Thomson & Co. Ltd. since 1938 . in the UK and Ireland .

This weekly magazine consists of a variety of comic strips ; whereby each of the numerous main characters ( Beano stars ) usually has one or two pages reserved for themselves and their experiences. The most popular (and longest appearing in the Beano) heads are Dennis the Menace and his dog Gnasher , who make fun of bullying parents, teachers, postmen and "softies" (male peers who are particularly effeminate) and to despair. But the Bash Street Kids , Minnie the Minx and Roger the Dodger have also been around for a long time. Most of the stories take place in Beanotown , and sometimes the paths of the main characters cross. Occasionally, speech bubbles appear from imaginary readers of the comic or the corresponding comic character talks to the readers. Beano-Comics also appear in special issues and in book form.
