Dawn Wells
Dawn Elberta Wells (born October 18, 1938 in Reno , Nevada ) is an American actress .
Life
In 1959 she was named Miss Nevada and took part in the Miss America election the following year as the representative of her state . After that, her acting career began. She initially received supporting roles and guest appearances in various television series such as 77 Sunset Strip (1961), Maverick (1961) and Bonanza (1962/1968).
Then from 1964 to 1967, she played the role of land ice Mary Ann Summers in the CBS - sitcom Gilligan's Island , which was to shape their image sustainably. With the series repeated countless times to date, Wells / Mary Ann became an icon of American popular culture. In 1990, after the death of Natalie Schafer , who had played the millionaire's wife Mrs. Howell on Gilligan's Island , and who had a kind of mother-daughter relationship with Wells in the series as in "real life", rumors began to spread that Schafer had her sizable Wells bequeathed fortune.
