The comics depict cute little bunnies or rabbits, so-called "bunnies", who have an urgent need to kill themselves as cruelly as possible in a variety of ways. In the comics, for example, doors, toasters, Olympic flames, irons, shark tanks, aircraft nozzles and other methods are depicted with which the bunnies beat themselves to death. The book also parodies forms of death from Hollywood films, such as B. Dr. Strange or: How I learned to love the bomb , in which a bunny lets himself be blown up with the atom bomb. The comics are designed in such a way that it is often not immediately apparent in which way the bunny wants to kill himself, so that the suicide as a morbid punch line triggers an “ aha effect ” in the reader.

The book and its successor became so popular that many free riders brought out pirated prints or thematically related "bunny" copies. The cartoonist Liu Gang was inspired by the comic series for the book Suicide Rabbit .
