The Breaker (브레이커; RR: Beureikeo) is a Korean Manhwa series written by Geuk-Jin Jeon and illustrated by Jin-Hwan Park , under the stage name Kamaro. The Breaker first appeared from 2007 to 2010 in Young Champ's magazine from the Korean publisher Daiwon CI. The successor The Breaker: New Waves (브레이커 NW; Beureikeo NW ) was published on the online platform Daum Communications from 2010 onwards . The Breaker has been translated into several languages, including German.

The story revolves around the new and unusual class teacher Chun-Woo and his student Shi-Woon. Shi-Woon, a weakling who is constantly bullied by his classmates, happens to witness the great and supernatural powers of Chun-Woo and asks him to take him on as a student so that he can become stronger and defend himself. Chun-Woo says he can only train him if he proves his will. But Shi-Woon was not even remotely clear about the power of his master. And so Shi-Woon is drawn into the martial arts world that is hidden from the public.

action

Chun-Woo Han is a martial arts master who was given the title of Dragon of Nine Techniques (Goomoonryong) by the Murim. The Murim are a secret society of martial artists who coexist in harmony with modern society and are ruled by the Martial Arts Alliance. Chun-Woo hates the Martial Arts Alliance because it bears the blame for the death of his master and therefore joins the Black Defense Group, the opponent of the Martial Arts Alliance. Under orders from the Black Defense Group, Chun-Woo is hired as a substitute teacher at a high school in Seoul, where he meets Shi-Woon, who is being beaten up. One evening, Shi-Woon witnessed a fight in which Chun-Woo was participating and recorded it on video. He uses the film to blackmail his teacher and teach him martial arts to solve his bullying problem.

Chun-Woo's mission was to free So-Sul, head of the Sunwoo clan, from the Martial Arts Alliance. When Chun-Woo prepares to leave the country, the Martial Arts Alliance takes Shi-Woon hostage. Chun-Woo gives up his plan to save his student. He gives up Shi-Woon as his student and destroys his Qi center, which significantly reduces his potential as a martial artist. As a result of this apparently brutal act, Shi-Woon is no longer considered a Murim and, as a civilian, is protected from the revenge of other fighters by the laws of the Martial Arts Alliance. Finally, So-Sul appoints Shi-Woon as her successor.

The sequel The Breaker: New Waves continues the story of Shi-Woon, who is leaving his position as head of the Sunwoo clan. The Martial Arts Alliance is losing control of the world, and a new group called the SUC begins terrorizing ordinary citizens in the name of the Dragon of the Nine Arts. Shi-Woon's new acquaintance with Sera Kang and a series of events enable him to restore his qi center. He wants to destroy SUC because this organization is polluting his teacher's name.
