The Clientele

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Clientele is a British indie rock band.

Alasdair MacLean and James Hornsey grew up in Hampshire . As fans of Galaxie 500 and Felt , they started making music together. They then formed The Clientele with MacLean as vocalist and guitarist, Hornsey as bassist, Innes Phillips as an additional vocalist and guitarist who soon left the band, and a drummer who was replaced by Mark Keen in 1999. Their first release was the song We Could Walk Together on a sampler from Fierce Panda Records . After a few singles and EPs, they released their first album, Suburban Light, in 2000 as a compilation of songs from their previous work.

In 2001 the band signed with the American indie label Merge Records . There they released the albums The Violet Hour in 2003 and Strange Geometry in 2005. Then the keyboardist and percussionist Mel Draisey joined the band and the albums God Save The Clientele (2007) and Bonfires on the Heath (2009) were created.
