The Color Wheel was a British musical group from Glasgow . It was founded in 1990 under the name The Catherine Wheel and disbanded in 1996. The band achieved regional fame and had appearances on several radio and TV programs. However, it remained unknown outside the UK. Stylistically, Color Wheel is one of the forerunners of Britpop ; Comparing the arrangements with the music of the Beatles . The Color Wheel released 3 singles and one album.

Band history

The Color Wheel was founded in 1990 under the name The Catherine Wheel for participation in a regional band competition. It consisted of the members Kenny Hutchison (keyboards), Mike Kinsella (vocals, electric guitar), John McGuire (vocals, acoustic guitar), Iain McKay (drums) and Karin Oien (electric bass). They won the band competition and recorded two songs at Glasgow CaVa Studios , which were released on the album The CaVa Sessions along with the contributions of the other award winners . Since another English band was under contract with a record label under the name The Catherine Wheel , the group decided to change their name to The Color Wheel .

In 1991 Color Wheel released their first self-financed single Primary , which contained 4 songs. It was reviewed in the Scottish press and the band made its first appearance on The Funny Farm on Scottish television. Then the second single Goodbye Jane was released a year later .

In 1994 the band had written enough songs to record their first (still self-financed) album Darwin's Waiting Room , which hit the Glasgow record stores a year later along with the single Mrs Mac . Despite appearing on a national radio show, the band did not get a record deal and broke up in 1996.
