history

The T. Eaton Co. opened its first shopping mall at this location in 1929. In 1977, larger neighboring shops were added and these were combined to form a larger complex. The TD Square in the immediate vicinity had four floors and the botanical garden. In 1990 the Eaton business moved out of its building, which was demolished and replaced with a new and larger one in the same location and named the Calgary Eaton Center. The historic facade of the building from 1929 was preserved and restored and still characterizes part of the shopping center today.
