The Dartells was an American rhythm and blues and twist band that adopted the Mashed Potatoes style from Dee Dee Sharp .
history
The group was founded in 1962 and released a single single called Hot Pastrami in 1962 . In 1963 it reached number 11 on the US pop and number 15 on the R&B charts. Subsequent singles were not very successful; Dance Everybody Dance peaked at number 99, and the third single, a cover version by The Beau-Marks group , Clap Your Hands , did not make the charts. Lead singer Doug Phillips later played in the groups New Concepts and Cottonwood.
