Dee Dee Sharp

Dee Dee Sharp (born September 9, 1945 in Philadelphia , Pennsylvania ; actually: Dione LaRue ) is an American R&B singer.

Career

She started her career in 1961 as a background singer . She could be heard on recordings by Bobby Rydell and Chubby Checker (Slow Twistin ').

But just a year later she was also quite successful as a soloist. With Mashed Potato Time (2nd place), Gravy (For My Mashed Potatos) (9th place) and Ride! (5th place) she celebrated three successes in 1962. In 1963, Do The Bird followed (10th place).

But she missed her biggest hit. The original plan was for her to sing the track Loco-Motion , but Little Eva was obviously more successful at rehearsals.

In 1967 she married the famous producer and songwriter Kenny Gamble and recorded Philly soul and disco style records . The marriage ended in divorce in 1980.

Sharp took on other records from time to time, but they did not produce any major successes or hits. Nevertheless, the singer continues to perform internationally.
