The Denholm Group (actually J. & J. Denholm Limited ) is a holding company based in Glasgow . The family-run group of companies is divided into four business areas: Shipping, Logistics, Seafood and Industrial Services.
history
The company was founded in Greenock in 1866 by James Denholm. Denholm, whose father was a captain, started out as a shipping agency. James' brother John Denholm joined the company three years after it was founded, after which it was renamed J. & J. Denholm. In 1872 the top sail schooner David Sinclair was acquired and used in the West India trade for its own account. Ten more sailing ships followed before the first steamship, the Carronpark , was acquired in 1882 . The naming after a park in Greenock became a shipping tradition.
In the 1970s Denholm reduced its own shipping company and instead strengthened its shipping agency division and diversified the company into the logistics sector. In addition, Denholm took over the fish trading division from Christian Salvesen in 1986 and acquired service companies for industry and oil production.
Today the Denholm Group has a turnover of over £ 230 million and employs over 1000 people.
