The Gothard Sisters is a music group from Edmonds, Washington , USA that performs Irish music and Irish dance . The group consists of the three sisters Greta, Willow and Solana Gothard.

Band history

Greta Gothard (* 1988 or 1989), the eldest of the three sisters, began playing the classical violin at the age of five, and later also the guitar. She qualified three times for the "Western Championships" in Irish dancing. She also produces the sisters' music videos. Like her sister Greta, Willow (* 1990 or 1991) began playing the violin at the age of five, including in orchestras. In 2007 she started playing the bodhran . She has been playing the mandolin since 2010. She also sews the costumes. Solana, the youngest member of the Gothard Sisters (* 1996 or 1997), started playing the violin at the age of three. At the age of eleven, she was the youngest participant in the Northwest Irish Dance Championship to ever take part in the competitions. She is the singer of the Gothard Sisters. She also plays most of the rhythmic instruments.

The Gothard sisters began busking as a violin trio in their hometown of Edmonds in 2006. Over time, they appeared in numerous markets and festivals where they performed music and Irish dance. Little by little they learned to play other instruments. They released their first album in 2008.

In 2013 the Gothard Sisters were honored by the Irish Music Association as "Best New Irish Artists" with the Irish Music Award. With their album Falling Snow they reached number 13 in December 2016 and number 6 with Midnight Sun in May 2018 on the Billboard world music charts .
