The Hummer is the eighth studio album by the Canadian musician Devin Townsend and the artist's second ambient project after the 2004 album Devlab . It was released on November 15, 2006 on Townsend's record label HevyDevy Records in a limited edition of 500 copies.

backgrounds

The music on The Hummer has nothing in common with Townsend's other releases, which, in contrast to this album, can be musically assigned to Progressive Metal . Townsend wanted to record a relaxing album to relax to or to meditate on. He described the music as "peaceful", it was suitable as "background music for reflection". All tracks on the album are by Devin Townsend, who was inspired by his impending fatherhood and described the album with its low-frequency sounds as the counterpart to Strapping Young Lads Alien . Townsend used voice samples from Leonard Cohen , in which Cohen philosophizes about life. The work on the album took over two years and it was only available through the online shop of the HevyDevy Records website.

Reviews

The online magazine metal.de characterized the music as ambient with elements of drone and noise , compared to the Devlab (2004), which was also assigned to the ambient , The Hummer was "more simple, minimal and above all: more concrete". The webzine Global Domination pointed out that, according to Townsend, the album is not for everyone and that it has its charm and, despite its length, is by no means boring.
