The King of Hearts has five sons .

The King of Hearts Has Five Sons is a true little-known Deduction - card game , but this game is of interest in that when the game idea in the famous board game Cluedo finds, perhaps it is a precursor.

The rules

The King of Hearts Has Five Sons is best played by four or five people. For the game you use the twelve picture cards (four jacks, four queens and kings each), as well as the ten heart cards (ace, two, ..., ten).

Before the game begins, the twelve picture cards are shuffled and one card is placed face down in the center; you do the same with the ten heart cards. Then the remaining twenty cards are shuffled together and distributed evenly to the players.

The game itself is similar to the Cluedo . The aim of the game is to guess the cards that are face down in the middle through clever questions and logical reasoning.

The first player asks his left neighbor about the possession of certain cards: if he asks about the queen of spades and the three, he says: " The Queen of Spades has three sons ."

  • If the left neighbor holds both cards, he shows the questioner one of these cards, which of the two is irrelevant, but in such a way that only the questioner can recognize this card.
  • If the left neighbor only holds one card, he shows it to the questioner in such a way that only he or she can recognize the card.
  • If the left neighbor does not hold either of the two cards, the question goes to his left neighbor, this continues until a player shows a card.

If a player has presented a card, the next player can ask. After a question, any player has the right to name a solution. To this end, he writes his assumed solution on a piece of paper and looks at the face down cards.

If his guess turns out to be

  • true, the game is over and he has won.
  • wrong, he puts the cards back face down in the middle. The game will now continue, whereby the player, who now knows the solution, can of course no longer win, but remains in the game to answer questions.
