The Merry Thoughts is a German Gothic Rock band.

history

The band was founded in 1983 by Carsten Mainz (guitar, synthesizer) and Olaf Wollschläger (synthesizer, drum computer) in Neuss . Marvin Arkham joined the band shortly afterwards and quickly took on the role of singer and songwriter. Sonja Jordan on guitar completed the band.

On the first known demo "The Ravens" in 1986 mainly songs were recorded with a synthesizer. Here are z. B. to hear early versions of 'Second Generation' or 'Dreamland', but also to date unreleased material such as 'Enemy', 'Lap Of The God' or 'Master Of The Storms'.

In 1991 Sonja Jordan and Marvin Arkham recorded another demo of 'Second Generation'. This song became the first single in 1993, followed by 'Pale Empress' and the first album 'Millennium Done I: Empire Songs'.

In 1996 the second album 'Psychocult' was released. The Merry Thoughts could be seen live until 2000. The last concert to date was given in 2000 at the Albion in New York City .

After Jordan left, the band only consists of Marvin Arkham. The official homepage has been offline since April 2012. A comeback is therefore not to be expected. Numerous songs that have been heard live over the years were never officially released.
